"Boarding at Westbourne House has prepared me for senior school and for life."
Lucas and Isabel spent one full academic year at Westbourne House. They share their experiences of our home from home, friendly boarding at Westbourne House School and the difference it has made to them.
Mr and Mrs Xu's daughter Annie joined Westbourne House in Year 5.
They talk to us in Mandarin about why they chose Westbourne House for their artistic daughter, their pride in her excellent academic results and how they stayed in touch with their daughter whilst she was boarding.
For your child’s first experience of boarding in a new country, Westbourne House is the ideal step. We have a gentle and caring approach to boarding, which supports every child as they adjust to new surroundings, food, language and culture. Very quickly, our international boarders feel settled and at home and appreciated in our kind boarding community.
Our prestigious school has excellent academic lessons and inspires children to develop their passions in drama, music, art and sport. We are a world-class High Performance Learning School and teach life skills, such as collaboration, resilience, creativity and strategy planning. At the end of Year 8, children are independent, mature, confident in English and are ready for their move to senior school.
Boarding at Westbourne is an incredible opportunity for rapid English language acquisition.
Most children from abroad start boarding with us in Years 5, 6 or 7, although we do take boarders from Year 4 (age 9).
The preparation for senior school at Westbourne House is second to none and our pupils head to a wide range of senior schools, such as Brighton College, Canford School, Eton College, Malborough and Wellington amongst others. Mr Barker, Headmaster, is dedicated to supporting parents and children to find the perfect fit for the next step to senior school.
Many of our pupils in Year 8 are awarded scholarships to their senior school.
Our younger boarders live in Main House, under the care of Mr and Mrs Fisher. The children feel very safe and cared for. They have small dormitories with just a few children and can relax in the evenings in the ‘snug’.
Older pupils live in our ‘outhouses’, which are boarding houses nestled in our grounds, which remind visitors of a small, friendly village. Each boarding house is hosted by a married couple, who help create a kind, family atmosphere.
Westbourne House is set in 100 acres of beautiful parkland with a 60-acre lake teeming with wildlife just outside of historic Chichester.
Chichester has good train links to London. London Gatwick is only 60 minutes away and Heathrow is 90 minutes.
The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) gave Westbourne House top marks in its inspection in November 2022.
Westbourne House School was the inaugural winner of a special national award - the Alice Rose Award - in the Talk Education Awards for Innovation in Education 2022.
