Out of the classroom: co-curricular
We use a mixture of activities, visits and events in the school grounds as well as educational visits further afield to bring history alive. We also organise cross-curricular events with other departments.
Trips include visiting a living museum, Weald and Downland, in the hills behind Chichester, and a trip to London to see the British Museum’s breath-taking array of Ancient Egyptian mummies, tombs and sarcophagus.
Having begun my own education at Westbourne House in the Pre-Prep, and then as one of the first girls to attend the Prep School, it was a real delight to return as Head of History in September 2021.
I believe that a history education is a wonderful thing! Sparking curiosity and a love of learning about the past, as well as giving pupils the opportunity to think critically, to make judgements about what they find and to ask thoughtful questions, history provides many essential skills for children growing up in society today. It is a fantastic subject to teach and I feel very lucky to have returned to Westbourne House where my own love of the subject first began – and where history really is all around us!
