I joined Westbourne House School in September 2021, after a fair few national lockdowns and stretches of home schooling, a time I am sure we all remember well!
The main focus of my role is the social and emotional wellbeing of the pupils at Westbourne House, and after a bumpy few years, the mental health and wellbeing of the children seems more important now than ever.
I work as part of the Individual Needs Department and alongside the pastoral team, supporting the children inside and outside of the classroom. I guide and support students, in groups or individually, through challenging situations that may be affecting their performance in school. I help the children to recognise these barriers and set them up with some tools and strategies to get past them.
Having a child myself, who finds school unbearably hard at times, I feel it is so important for children to have a friendly face to turn to, someone who always has the time to help them, is absolutely rooting for them, and can reassure them that it really is okay to not be okay.
I am very much enjoying being a part of the Westbourne House family and providing that care and support for the children here in my fun and creative way!
