Three Westbourne House School pupils, from Chichester, reach the podium at the National Athletics Championships
It was a very successful day for our 15 athletes who competed at the National Athletics Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham - with five PBs and two new school records!
Loftus and Valentina were crowned national champions for the Year 6 Boys Discus and Year 8 Girls High Jump respectively. Valentina broke her own high jump record (1.53m) and Hetty came second in the Year 7 Hurdles.
Mr Hanley said: “What an amazing day! It was so good to see our athletes competing against the best in the country and they all did so well. We were proud to take 15 athletes, who all did incredibly well to qualify. A special well done to our medalists, Hetty, Val and Loftus.”
“It was good to see where we feature as a school on the national stage, but these trips are also about the time spent away with each other, the friendships and how our children conduct themselves outside school. And I am very proud to say, they were very polite and such great company from start to finish.”
Mrs Pullen added: “To get a few children to the Nationals is always such a great achievement but to get 16 is amazing. It’s so good to see all their hard work paying off.”
Congratulations to you all and who knows one day you might be heading to the Olympics and follow in the footsteps of Old Westbournian Toby Harries.
