Our full-time boarders do something different every weekend with a mix of independent time to relax and catch up with their families and friends, as well as trips out and about. Here are two Westbourne House recipes for a super cool weekend!
Mr and Mrs Pitman's recipe: hooting owls, fire-cooked puddings, indoor climbing, bowling and, of course, chilling!
Mr and Mrs Pitman told us: “Saturday afternoon gave us the impression that summer was back! However, with plans afoot to build a bonfire in the Boundaries (our woods), what we were secretly hoping for was a chilly autumnal evening.
“Luckily, that’s exactly what we got and it made the building and lighting of the open fire so much more cosy and atmospheric!
“After a delicious salmon supper created by chef Darren, our intrepid bunch of boarders headed back out to the fire to cook their pudding… roasted bananas garnished with chocolate and cream – talk about a sweet and satisfying ending to the day! Hooting owls added to ambiance as the flames died down.
“On Sunday morning, we then set about making some homely touches for the boarders’ dorms. We gave the boarders their initials and they spent a happy time decorating them using decoupage. They also made framed collages, which looked fantastic.
“After a fine Sunday roast, we set off for Clip 'n Climb. The afternoon was filled with squeals of delight, and some of horror, as the guys tackled the fun, colourful climbing towers. There were some heroic acts of bravery from those not so comfortable with heights and the bravado of those throwing themselves off the tall leap of faith.
“When we returned to earth, the bowling lanes opened and although, of course, the result was not important and everyone had a few moments of glory.
“We finished the weekend off with an evening of chilling out. Mrs Pitman and I awarded prizes for brilliant moments during the weekend: best brushers, most entertaining laughter, the vertigo buster and card sharks!”
Mr and Mrs Jeram's recipe: seafront, sketching, tie-dying and bouncing!
After the excitement of our Colour Run, boarding houseparents, Mr and Mrs Jeram, took the children to Selsey seafront and the park where they enjoyed playing outside and of course an ice cream.
Mrs Jeram said: “After supper we played table tennis and frisbee in our lovely grounds. On Sunday morning the children had a lie-in and a relaxing morning sketching in the art room, tie-dying T-shirts and making balloon animals and shopping at The Range. After a hearty roast lunch (the food is incredible all weekend), we headed off to Exploria in Southsea for some trampolining and soft play.”
Funniest moment: “Rolling down the hills - all the children got involved and it was really good fun.”
What the children said: “This ice cream is nearly as big as my head...!!!”
Kindest boarder and boarder of the weekend: “Andy, for always making sure his sister was okay and keeping her warm with a big hug. He always had the biggest smile and was so helpful all weekend.”
Tiredest boarders: “Amy and Claudia who had a little nap all the way to Southsea😀.” Mrs Jeram added.
