On Wednesday of International Week, school buzzed with the energy of collaboration, as different year groups joined forces for two heart-warming activities. These sessions were about working together and giving our children the chance to work across the age groups, while seamlessly weaving in the spirit of International Week.
Years 2 and 3 embarked on a colourful adventure inspired by artist Kandinsky. After learning a little about Kandinsky and his bold, brightly-coloured, abstract style, the children explored their chosen country's flag and chose corresponding colours for their circle design. Together they had to come up with a strategy to make the best Kandinsky-inspired picture they could using all the group members and the flag colours. It wasn't just about art, it was about communication, respect and friendship.
"It was wonderful for the year groups to work together! The Year 3 children especially loved seeing their Year 2 friends and Year 2 teachers!"
Mrs Pitman, Year 3 teacher
Meanwhile, Year 1 collaborated with Year 4. In a joint learning activity, they drew around each other's hands, transforming them into colourful, patterned mini masterpieces. These artistic hands will eventually come together into a beautiful display.
"It was lovely to hear Year 1 and 4 chatting happily away with each other, sharing colours and finding out about each other. Our Year 4 children were super ambassadors and enjoyed the opportunity to help their younger friends, especially with the tricky cutting out!"
Mr Bailey, Year 2 teacher
Collaborations such as these are more than just fun activities; they are powerful learning experiences. By working together, pupils develop valuable skills like communication, problem-solving and empathy.
Collaborations are also the true essence of a thriving school community, where learning goes beyond the classroom and embraces the power of togetherness.
