On Tuesday, Westbourne House competed in the Cottesmore Chess Congress.
This event has become a significant event in the chess calendar for prep schools in both Surrey and Sussex and it is viewed as the strongest prep competition in the country. Of the 48 players from 11 schools including Brighton College, Ardingly, Hurst and Aldro, there were 4 England players and 15 county players so the standard of matches was incredibly high.
Westbourne won 9 of their 18 matches on the day which is our best showing at this event in the four years we’ve been going there. So, it’s a big well done to our trio of Tom H, Henry L and Olly W who all played magnificently for their school. Special mention to Tom who won four of his six games which is a major achievement. Well done one and all.
