Three teams comprising of Westbourne House’s Year 6 and 7 pupils took part in a debating fixture against Lancing Prep. Three motions were debated:
- ‘Every Sunday should be a day of no screens?’ Westbourne House proposing Year 6
- ‘We should have no pets as we should not control other beings.’ Worthing proposing Year 7
- ‘The older generation have ruined the planet. It’s time for the young people to take charge.’ Worthing proposing Year 7
The audience comprised of Year 5 to Year 7 pupils who had an opportunity to ask questions to the teams before they performed their concluding speeches.
The judges were four Year 8 pupils (two from Westbourne House and two from Lancing Prep). They did an amazing job of marking, making notes and providing constructive feedback.
Unfortunately, Lancing won 2 out the 3 debates, beating us 2 – 1. All the pupils spoke well and they were marked on their presentation and content of their speeches.
This will definitely be fixture that will be repeated next year.
Year 6 team: Honor Pennant and Evie Read
Year 7 team: Harrison Blackmore-Squires, Bas Bush, Fin Sutcliffe and Georgina Paterson
Judges: Louis Clarke and Hannah Cleallsmith
