How do you measure the speed of sound? Our Year 7s carried out an echo experiment in their outdoors science skills lesson to answer this question.
Ardra and Lily-Rose explained: "We used a stop watch to time sound. We stood 50m behind the Millennium Hall and one person clapped two pieces of wood together. They then had to clap again when they heard the echo. The rest of us timed it as it came back."
What are science skills lessons? They focus on improving the children's experimenting and practical skills whilst providing context to their main science lessons. Vivian, Year 7 pupil, said: "Science skills are a useful way to refresh your memory of what you've covered in you lessons."
