Evening Party win mock election

We voted! Did you?

Hundreds of Westbourne House pupils headed to the polls on 4 July, voting at the Polling Station in the inner hall.

Early polls accurately predicted the election result - that the Evening Party could clinch the majority.

The mock election was organised by Tim Pitman, Head of Learning4Life, our sector leading PSCHE programme designed to give pupils the skills they need in the future.

The children were introduced to the three parties: Morning Party, Afternoon Party and Evening Party through their manifestos, which Mr Pitman had pulled together from the real-life general election manifestos, mixing up the policies.  This gave the children the basis on which to start to decide which were the policies that were most important to them. Did the policies reflect their values?  Did party did they think best suited the needs of the local area and country?

With three days to go, new headlines hit the smart boards in our pupils' early morning Learning4Life lessons, which gave some pupils cause to rethink their choices.

On 4 July, all pupils in Year 1 - Year 8, and staff,  voted in the mock election, with the Evening Party winning the election.

Nursery and Reception

As their grown-ups went to the Polling Station, the children in Early Years also had the chance to vote…for the Mr Men they thought would make the best friend – Mr Strong, Little Miss Sunshine or Mr Tickle!

Since campaigning began on Monday, the children have listened to each candidates’ story, learnt about their manifestos including an HPL Superhero quality, dressed up in specially made outfits and most importantly voted for the candidate they thought would make the best friend!

It’s been wonderful to see the children so engaged and enjoying such an opportunity and the winner was…LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE!
