Creative topic brings many elements of geography, history and science to life
There was a great sense of excitement as the children arrived in their colourful ‘hot and cold’ outfits for the culmination of our ‘Fire and Ice’ topic. The fun began in the art block as the children made Tudor houses out of cardboard and paper. They used their problem solving skills and worked collaboratively to create a fantastic replica of Pudding Lane. The Science department then showed us some incredible experiments using dry ice. After time in the woods with our Year 4 friends, the day concluded with the re-creation of the Great Fire of London as Pudding Lane was set alight in the playground.
Year 2 watched on with slight trepidation as Matt and Glenn set fire to their replica of Pudding Lane. It took a while to get going but the children loved watching the effect of the wind on the flames and were excited to see which houses burned fastest. It demonstrated how the Great Fire of London spread through the tightly packed timber buildings, with their thatched rooves.
"I noticed that the ones with steep rooves burned the most quickly," said Santi.
