The boys have completed a very successful cricket season.
However what is success? Winning all the matches? Or being the best possible cricketer you can be? I was really impressed when I was lucky enough to take the U9C team: I saw that through much hard work, net practise and games play all the boys had grasped the fundamental bowling action, were keen and enthusiastic in the field and relished the opportunity to bat. Winning of course is good for confidence and helps team spirit. Our fixture list is always aspirational, competitive and motivational making each season a real challenge.
The 1st XI were a real force to be reckoned with producing some outstanding performances. Felixston from Natal in South Africa started their tour with us and found us
in top form.
Windlesham and Hurstperpoint both found runs difficult to come by against a well- balanced attack. Toby Barton, Rocco Gamblin and Will Fountain all scored over 200 runs while Ed Timberlake and Dill Howell were the leading wicket takers. Zack Gadsby led the team and bowled with real venom.
The season climaxed with a match against Cornwall Hill from Pretoria and after 5 hours cricket it all came down to the last ball.
The 2nd XI have also impressed with Charlie Gray, Dylan Gadsby and Hugh Fleming performing well with the bat and Poppy Sutcliffe the bowler of the season.
The U11As won a great 6-a-side tournament at Brighton College with Vinnie Gooley gaining selection to the county squad.
The Bs continue to make excellent progress thanks to their appetite to improve and their desire to cement a place in the team given the competitive nature of the squad. A particular highlight was Elliott Hill taking a hat trick against St Christopher’s.
The U10s have been unbeaten this half of the term with William Temple and Theo Chinwala stepping up. Freddie Gillett also made an excellent half century.
Well done to the U10B team who had found life tough in the first half of term but through hard work and dedication turned their season around during June.
The U9A team have been very impressive winning all their matches . Congratulations to Fergus O’Connell for his Sussex U10 selection. A very busy August awaits.
