Generous donation of instruments

Music is a huge part of our daily lives at Westbourne House and we are delighted to announce that, thanks to a very generous, anonymous donation, our Pre-Prep pupils will now be able to access more musical instruments earlier in their Westbourne journey.

The donation has enabled us to buy 26 new instruments including starter flutes, clarinets, trombones, cornets and cellos, which are all designed for young children.

“Our Year 2 pupils have already started their trial lessons and have thrown themselves into it with great enthusiasm,” said our Head of Music, Mr Dichmont. “It’s fantastic that our children in Year 2 will be able to have to have two trial lessons on each of these new instruments as part of their weekly class music lesson alongside their recorder tuition. This equates to ten instrument lessons, giving them a unique chance to explore and hopefully discover a favourite instrument.

The trial lessons are being delivered by Richard Allum (flute), Emily Maindonald and Gordon Curtis (clarinet), Matthew Cooke (trombone and cornet), Lis Peskett (violin) and Alex Dichmont (cello).

A number of music scholarships are available to children entering Years 3 and 4. Awards are made up to 20% of the school fees, in addition to free musical tuition. To find out more about the scholarship opportunities contact the music department or Aline Pilcher on admissions@westbournehouse.org

Applications should be received by 1 March 2024. Assessments will take place on 8 March 2024. Learn more about our scholarships and bursaries.
"We are very grateful indeed for this very generous gift which will allow the children to experiment with music and give them the confidence and enthusiasm at the start of their musical journey.”
