Not many people can say they advised Queen Elizabeth II what to wear.
Not many people captured the moment full of hope when the Paris agreement was signed at COP21.
Not many people have been trusted to step into the Royal family’s home to photograph behind the scenes in the Royal Mews.
But our Year 7 pupils were very lucky to hear from one person who has – photographer Henry Dallal.
Henry Dallal’s photographs have been seen all over the world and he is the man behind the last ever portrait photo of Queen Elizabeth II, which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery.
Everyone was inspired by his passion, incredible photographs and his adventurous spirit!
“We all have cameras but it is what you do with it that makes all the difference.”
Henry Dallal
Our Year 7 pupils had some brilliant questions after being amazed by his images and stories: “Did you actually tell the Queen what she had to wear”, “How did you get into climbing?”, “When did you move from Iran?”, “Which was your favourite tribe?”, “Have you ever dropped a camera whilst climbing?” and were rewarded by fascinating stories that gave them a glimpse into a patchwork of adventures.
Henry Dallal encouraged the children to: “Find an interest and develop it, whatever it is. Photography, art, coding... Find your way, you’ll know what feels right, then specialise.”
Outside in the sunshine, Mr Dallal encouraged pupils and gave them further advice tips as our Year 7s sought to put into action some of the tips and ideas they had seen in his photos.
“Thank you for coming – you do amazing things."
Finn, Year 7
“Thank you for teaching us to take better photos,” added another.
