Our pupils really enjoyed hearing from inspiration speaker Jo Elphick from the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation. The foundation was set up to save endangered species including elephants, tigers, rhinos, snow leopards, painted dogs and pangolins.
Jo talked to the children about worldwide conservation and how their DSWF is helping save endangered species in many different ways. The charity wants to combat the daily news that certain species are vanishing as are wild spaces.
She explained that one of the major reasons why these animals are facing extinction is human behaviour, like wildlife trade and hunting as well as climate change. She told the children that we can all help in the UK by doing small things like using re-useable water bottles and looking after our environment.
One Year 6 pupil said: “It was lovely to see the pictures of all the different animals and realise that we may be able to help keep them safe in some way even though we are far away. “
