Inter-patrol debate

The inter-patrol debate final took place on the last day of term. The motion was: There should be children and teenagers in government. Having made it through to the final round, Owls and Otters battled it out in front of a very quiet and interested Prep School audience.

After the closing remarks, and whilst the judges deliberated, Miss Fisher spoke to everyone: "I'm sure you can all see what amazing skills are involved - being able to speak eloquently, put together persuasive arguments, think on your feet and to respond to those really challenging points of information.

"We will have an inter-patrol debate every year and I hope you have all been inspired to get involved next time around."

The debating teams were praised for some great points on both sides, some good rebuttals, for being engaging and for not generalising about young people and relying on stereotypes.

It fell to Mr Stewart, as a Panther, to deliver the judges' decision. "I really enjoyed it. It is really nerve-wracking doing a debate and you all did it fantastically. I loved the standoff between Harry and Will - that was very exciting. It is obviously a very close call but there has to be a winner and we have unanimously decided it is the Otters."
