Year 1 children have been making a splash in their outdoor science lesson as part of this term’s topic ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. First, they made predictions and then tested what different materials would float or sink. Afterwards, in the classroom, they wrote conclusions about what they had discovered.
Investigations continued in the children's weekly sessions at Forest School, held in the boundaries, our woods. Focusing on five different types of tree, the children set out to search for a variety of leaves and then match them to the trees. The children then made some beautiful leaf rubbings with their findings.
"It is lovely to see them working as part of a team, "Mrs Grout, our Forest School practitioner, tells us. "I have had to ensure Forest School is Covid-Safe, but it definitely hasn’t stopped us enjoying our Forest School sessions!
Part of Forest School is encouraging the children's natural curiosity and, as well as den building and climbing trees, they could often be seen with collecting vessels and magnifying glasses.
