Guiding our teachers through a dyslexia friendly classroom
Our dyslexia friendly classroom training at the start of term, provided valuable insight to all our teaching staff about how to improve learning for every single pupil. It highlighted the fact that consistent expectations and routines achieve consistent results among all children, but specifically among those who are neurodivergent.
There is no single formula to teaching a dyslexic child - just like the rest of our pupils, they each have their own strengths and challenges. What we can do, however, is ensure that we are using appropriate resources and dynamic strategies to engage each and every child within the school.
A dyslexia friendly exercise is suitable for ALL children.
Sharon Morton, Head of Individual Needs Department
We believe that changes to ensure that our classrooms are dyslexia friendly will benefit all of our pupils. The layout of worksheets, class seating plans, and class rituals such as learning objectives can all have a massively positive impact on everyone’s learning.
All of our staff have been aware of a wonderful and accessible training resource by Made By Dyslexia, a charity led by successful dyslexics to raise awareness and break the stigma which surrounds neurodivergence.
