Learning outdoors

"I truly believe that there's nothing that can be taught in a classroom that can't be taught outdoors and I think better."

Caroline Oglethorpe, Head of Pre-Prep

Our Pre-Prep pupils spend lots of time outdoors and the wonderful weather experienced during most of the term meant that the Pre-Prep teaching team could get outside often and make the most of the opportunities.

They enjoyed forest adventures full of imagination.

They went to the beach at West Wittering and it was glorious! The children enjoyed the sand and the sea in the sunshine and, building on all they have learnt during their Commotion in the Ocean topic, learnt more about our local seaside environment. Beaches on our doorstep mean that all our pupils across the year groups regularly have a seaside trip whether its topic, geography, science, a Saturday activity such as a beach clean, or a boarding activity.

Will it sink or will it float?  The children got a buzz from predicting what would happen and learnt as much from the times they got it wrong as the times they got it right.

Back in the classroom, the children, working in groups, worked on "One more - One less" in maths. It was lovely to see them listening to, and learning from, each other and celebrating each other's progress.
