Year 1 were delighted to discover a letter from Lenny the Llama at the start of term. He told the children that he lives in Peru and would love to find out more about where the children live in Chichester. The children were very excited and wrote letters back to Lenny telling them a bit more about where they live and what it is like to go to school at Westbourne House. It was a wonderful start to our new topic, ‘Near and Far’ where we will be looking at the history and geography of our local area and how it compares to a contrasting country.
One child wrote: “Dear Lenny, Do you go to school? I do. It is called Westbourne House School and it is the best!” Another child finished off their letter by saying, “I cannot wait to find out more about Peru. I really hope you write back and tell us more.”
The children took part in a compass challenge to learn how to use a compass to find some buried treasure, drew a plan of their classroom and labelled a map of the Pre-Prep. We are very much looking forward to our school trip to the Novium Museum where we will learn more about the history of Chichester, including a city walk to discover how it has changed over time.
