Less Me, More You Week was created by our pastoral team to engage the children in thinking about others, being kind and being our ‘best self’.
Positivity Challenge
Mr Barker set the children a positivity challenge, inspired by someone he heard talking at the IAPS Conference called Scary Guy. For the last 26 years Scary Guy has been talking to people about the power of our words and positivity. The challenge involved not saying anything negative about anything and anyone. A week later Mr Barker asked the children how they got on and challenged them once again to two days of positivity to see if they could do even better.
Anti-Bullying
We marked Anti-Bullying Week through our Learning4Life lessons, teaching key strategies to help pupils who are struggling with their peers, and to help children help others in need.
Mr Pitman, our Head of Learning4Life, spoke in a Year 6 assembly about invisible disabilities and shared some of his experiences of living with epilepsy. He said: “I experienced bulling and unkindness at school for being different. Westbourne House is very supportive and a welcoming and proactive environment to work in for someone with epilepsy. It’s pretty rare and special.”
Body Shop - Inspirational Talk
“I love how one small idea can become something big.”
Tali
Body Shop Brand Director - Jenny Whitehorn – concluded our Less Me, More You Week with an inspirational talk about the Body Shop. There can’t have been a better fit thanks to the fantastic ethos of Body Shop which has focussed over many years on helping others and using the Fairtrade ‘tool’ to uplift some of the poorest people in the world.
We heard about Teddy Exports, a Fairtrade Body Shop export company, which has grown from a small outfit 36 years ago, to a large successful business that has brought education, secure salaries, skills, heath care and more to people living in Thirumangalam in India.
"I also loved how Body Shop recycles so much," Tali added. Thinking of the planet is also a way of thinking more about others and Jenny encouraged the children to recycle as much as possible and think before they buy.
Path of Kindness
All pupils from Nursery to Year 8 and all staff were invited to draw around their shoes in chalk to create our very own ‘Path of Kindness’ between the Pre-Prep and the Prep School and show how kindness flows throughout our school.
