Linguistic Adventures

For the last two weeks of the school year, Years 5 and 6 went on a linguistic and cultural adventure encountering two new languages; Italian with Mrs Sleep and Greek with Mr Thomas.  This was a exciting surprise for pupils who have been studying French, Spanish and Latin this year.

In this clip, you can see and, more importantly, hear Year 5 getting stuck in to learning Italian!

To support this learning, Years 5 and 6 have also been cooking up some delicious Italian meatballs “polpette" in their cookery lessons with Mrs Bonn. The children learnt the vocabulary to be able to follow the “polpette” recipe in Italian and then made some delicious meatballs.

Year 8, who have studied French and Latin, began learning Spanish in readiness for those going onto to senior schools where they will be learning the language. In their first lesson they learnt that over 400 million people speak Spanish throughout the world, in 21 different countries. They were excited to think of all the wonderful places they could go once lockdown is lifted!
