Murder Mystery at Westbourne House

Year 7 have had a busy half of term with many an enriching opportunity around the next corner. One of which was the gigantic Agatha Christie-style Murder Mystery Festival.

Pupils were tasked with devising ten minute mystery plays around a set structure culminating in a giant performance in full costume.

The project involved the entire year group taking over the sports hall at once with full costume, make up and props. The function was the culmination of their term’s drama work and the showcasing of over ten devised plays created by the children themselves.

The children had been given a structure to help support the flow of the plays and, over the course of six weeks, they invented the characters, wrote the plot, conducted their own rehearsals and learned about the key elements of devised theatre.

Highlights included Hannah Cleallsmith’s gripping mystery set out at sea on a vast cruise ship and Ross Jemmet’s creative story of Mexican tourists exploring a derelict Indian monastery.
