There is nothing like an inter-patrol competition to bring out the children’s competitive spirit and Junior Sports Day 2018 was no exception.
First event of the day was the 75m sprint and Year 4 lined up first in the sunshine. Austin Agutter (Tiger) made it to the finish line first as fastest boy with a time of 11.33 seconds and Natasha King (Panther) was fastest girl with a time of 12.07 seconds. Both Austin and Natasha were the fastest boy and girl 75m runners at last year’s sports day: well done to them.
Year 4 then moved onto their field events and Year 3 took to the track. Half of Year 3 competed in the short sprint event of 75m and half competed in the slightly longer sprint event of 200m.
Year 3 pupils put their all into each race. Over 75 m, Tommy Norman (Panther) was the fastest boy with a time of 12.72 seconds and Penny Clarke (Tiger) the fastest girl with a time of 13.13 seconds. Over 200 metres, Johnny Kitchin (Tiger) was the fastest boy with a time of 33.78 seconds and Rosie Davies (Otter) the fastest girl crossing the line at 37.23 seconds.
All of year 4 competed in either long jump, high jump or ball throw. The winner of the boys’ long jump competition was Ollie Williams (Tiger) with a distance of 3.13m. The winner of the girls’ long jump was Natasha King (Panther) jumping 2.61m. In the high jump, Austin Agutter (Tiger) won the boys' competition with a height of 1.12m and jumping just 2cm less was Emily Stewart (Panther) who won the girls' competition.
The winner of the boys’ ball throw competition, Oliver Norman (Panther), was less than a metre from achieving a new school record with a distance of 41.70m. The winner of the girls’ ball throw was Tabitha Discombe Wells (Otter).
The Year 3s thoroughly enjoyed the dressing up race and egg and spoon race. There were a couple of close finishes.
Worth DOUBLE points, the final event of the morning was the patrol relays. First up were the girls: the Otters won the Year 3 relay and the Panthers won the Year 4 relay. For the boys, the Tigers brought home both the Year 3 and Year 4 relays.
The final score between 1st and 2nd place was nail-bitingly close; just two points in it!
The Panthers claimed victory with a total score of 118 points.
- 1st: Pathers – 118 points
- 2nd: Tigers – 116 points
- 3rd: Otters – 96 points
- 4th: Owls – 71 points
Well done to everyone for the enormous amount of effort and enthusiasm you put into each race. We would also like to congratulate everyone who got new personal best times.
