National Prep Schools Athletics Championships 2019

Nine pupils qualified to represent Sussex at the National Prep School Athletics Championship. Just reaching this stage is a real achievement, and hundreds of keen athletes had competed at their county competitions to qualify to attend.

Chloe Barratt started the competition as the 200m County Champion and all other athletes were runners-up in their respective events. There were 11 areas in attendance, which meant that there were a possible 22 athletes per event.  To say the least, the competition was fierce. It was a fantastic opportunity to compete against the top prep school athletes at Alexander Stadium, a venue also used for the British Athletics Championships. The weather was dry and the sun made an appearance as did Denise Lewis! It was a great experience for all of those involved.

There were not many PBs but we can justifiably put this down to the pressure felt on the day, the big stadium and the number of people watching.  All our athletes should be very proud of everything you have achieved.

Our star performer of the day was Theo Chinwala who made it onto the winners’ podium collecting a silver medal and certificate for the discus.

Results (remember this is nationally!):

Eden Littlefair: 1500m 5.31.88 - 7th in heat, 16th overall

Juliette Franks:

  • Shot 7.58 - 8th
  • High Jump 1.30 - 10th

Vinnie Gooley: 200m 28.41 PB - 2nd in heat, 2 places off of the final and 10th overall.

Chloe Barratt: 200m 30.44 - 3rd in heat, 4 places off of the final and 12th overall.

Theo Chinwala: Discus 19.68 - 2nd

William Ferrier: High Jump 1.20 - 11th

U12 Girls Relay (C Barratt, P Langmead, A Dodd, T Lyne): 60.32 - 3rd in heat.  Qualified for the final as fifth fastest and finished 5th overall with a PB of 59.82.

Well done to the whole squad. We are very proud of you and it was a pleasure to share your day!
