Nature, Art and Cooking in Year 1

Year 1 have been immersed in nature for their topic.  At the start of term, Mrs Rich received a letter from Jack (of Jack and Beanstalk fame), which contained a few magic beans.  Since then, the children have been creating bug hotels, making pictures out of nature treasures, learning about the biology and life cycle of a plant, learning about pollinators and making bee baths to help our buzzy friends.

The children were very excited with the success of their Bug-ingham Palaces:

Baxter said: "We went for a walk into the forest to collect materials for my Bug-ingham Palace! Whilst I was building my hotel today, a woodlouse had already moved in before I had even finished."

Florence's mother wrote: "Florence’s Bug-ingham Palace has already had a little snail visitor, which Florence was very excited about."

Year 1 have also created some funky art, inspired by Matisse, and cooked up a storm in their kitchens at home.
