The Westbourne House library is a wonderful place to relax, have a quiet conversation or lose yourself in a book
Snuggling up with a book, chatting to Mrs M-J our new librarian, playing chess, consulting an encyclopaedia, giggling over Uno and drawing with friends... just a few of the things our pupils choose to do in the Prep School library over lunchtime.
Mrs M-J, also known as Mrs Mallin-Jones, joined us at the start of term as our new librarian. She has a passion for creating life long readers and has many ideas for strengthening our culture of reading.
Our Year 7 Librarians have been reviewing their favourite books on Post-It Notes to encourage others to pick up a new book or genre. One example read:
“I, Coriander is a thrilling tale of love, abuse, strength and friendship and when her mother’s secret comes alive, things get more dangerous for Coriander than ever.”
“Post-It Note reviews are a fantastic way for children to recommend their favourite reads to others in a personal way. It is different from reading the back cover and I can already see that the other pupils are being encouraged to borrow the books reviewed.”
Mrs M-J, Librarian
Daisy, one of our Librarians, told us: "There were more reviews originally, but those books have now been taken out of the library so Mrs M-J has put the reviews to one side until the book is returned."
Success!
