Nursery Snowdrops and Chinese New Year

We were delighted to be able to welcome back our Nursery children after Christmas, despite the news of Lockdown 3 which moved learning online for all other year groups.

The children have, of course, benefitted enormously from seeing and playing with their friends.

As ever, we spend as much time as we can outside, exploring our grounds and walking in the woods.  On one of our walks the children were so excited to find snowdrops hiding in little bunches in amongst the leaves, so we decided to return as soon as we could to try and draw the snow drops.

The woods are a fabulous place for working on gross motor skills, which help the children to gain strength and confidence in his or her body.  The children loved exploring and climbed over and crawled under lots of the tree branches.

A visit to the woods is always such a fun adventure.  Sometimes we listen quietly to the birds, sometimes enjoy a hot chocolate and we always get a buzz from being outdoors in the fresh air.  This half of term we have also walked around the lake and spotted lots of birds that live on the water.

Chinese New Year was very exciting. We started by watching a short clip of the dragon dancing, and then made our own using a box and a shower curtain. The children all contributed to how the dragon would look, asking for a lion's mane, eyelashes, and a black mouth. Once the dragon was ready the children took turns to be under the head and body while others made wonderful music for the dragon to dance to.

We also made Chinese hats, mini dragons, masks and for our snack we enjoyed tasting a stir fry, trying very hard to eat with the chopsticks. It was a fun but tricky challenge!
