Outdoor learning playship launched

“Let's celebrate the good ship The Westbourne Odyssey and all those who sail in her.”

Thank you to all our parents and pupils who joined us to celebrate the naming of our wonderful, wooden playship, which was beautifully crafted for us. The ship is currently docked in the Pre-Prep playground and will be for some time!

We were lucky to have help at the launch from two of our parents - Naval Officer Cdr Becca Gorman and Olympic sailor Christina Handasyde Dick (formerly Bassadone), who talked to the children and gathered families about their links with the sea.

After the naming ceremony, the children enjoyed the ship and had lots of other activities to choose from treasure hunting, face painting, bubble catching and cookie eating!

The Westbourne Odyssey is a special ship where our Pre-Prep pupils can lose themselves in their imagination and just play. A place outside the classroom where our teachers can listen to the children read, act, sing and make up stories as well as help them practise their agility, climbing and balancing skills.

“Friendships will be formed and life-long memories will undoubtedly be made on this ship of discovery,” said Head of Pre Prep, Caroline Oglethorpe. “Our pupils here learn so much when they are playing outdoors and feel free to imagine, and our Westbourne Odyssey will truly enhance that learning.”

“Go well on your journey Westbourne Odyssey and good luck to all our pupils who sail in you during their Westbourne House School adventure,” she added.
