One of the greatest joys of returning to school in September 2021 was the ability to mix year groups where possible. By half term, we were able to relaunch our peer mentoring and leadership schemes to pupils. Here, we focus on just two of these schemes and the impact they have.
Happy Helpers
A team of our Year 7 pupils, nominated Happy Helpers, heads down twice a week to the Pre-Prep during first break to have fun and learn with the very youngest members of our school community.
The Happy Helpers scheme is just one of our pupil leadership programme initiatives. The scheme encourages our Year 7 pupils to be resourceful and think on their feet as they find ways to help during the lesson as well as become reliable, responsible role models for younger age groups.
One Year 7 Happy Helper said: “I loved it. Being in Year 1 today brought back so many good memories and it was lovely to be helping a new generation of pupils who are on their way to the Prep School.”
Another Year 7 Happy Helper added: “The chairs are so small! It was such a great thing to do, just knowing we are helping the little ones on their way is really worth it.”
From coins to star jumps, the Year 7s spent time with every year group and everyone is already looking forward to the next visit on Thursday.
Playground Pals
Our Playground Pals in Years 3 and 4 have been very busy making sure everyone has happy break times.
Pastoral Head of Juniors, Mr Stewart, said: “The children supervise lots of different, old-fashioned bat and ball games every week to bring the all the juniors together and put a smile on everyone’s face.
“It’s lovely to see the children looking after each other and making sure everyone is included.”
