Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration: a day to remember

Dressed in red, white and blue to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, the children had an incredible all-day celebration of her 70-year reign.

"It was a magical day from start to finish and everyone was involved across the school. Our whole community sang, danced and smiled as the sun shone and it was a celebration of 70 years we think the Queen would be very proud of."

Mr Barker, Headmaster

To start the day, we sang the national anthem in morning assembly and talked about our Queen Elizabeth, her resilience and her 70 years as the British monarch.

During the morning we planted two Jubilee trees to mark the occasion, our Prep School pupils planted a copper beech and our Pre-Prep pupils planted a pear tree.

At breaktime it was time for Dancing Queen and an 11am ‘disco through the royal decades’ in the blazing sunshine which got us all in the party mood.

The Prep School had a delicious picnic lunch, with everyone enjoying sitting on picnic blankets in their patrols.

The Nursery and Pre-Prep children also had their own street party with Jubilee picnic outside, and they played lots of ‘traditional’ games the Queen may well have played when she was a child, including skittles and hopscotch. A new addition was ‘Pin the Crown on the Queen’!

In the afternoon, every pupil from Year 3 to Year 8 took part in a Diamond Cricket tournament and the day ended with a royal ‘How much do you know about Her Majesty?’ quiz.

"At home time we saw some very exhausted but happy children who we hope had a day to remember and who, in years to come, will be able to tell their children all about Queen Elizabeth II and how they marked her remarkable 70 years on the throne,” Mr Barker added.
