Pond dipping in watery worlds

Year 2 had a fantastic time pond dipping as part of their Water Worlds topic. The children worked in groups, and used nets to navigate the reeds and delve into the pond. They then transferred the contents to trays and magnifying pots to look more closely at their findings. We were very excited to see palmate newts, pond skaters, dragonflies, water snails and leeches.

Butterflies

Year 2 have also been studying the life cycle of butterflies this term. They kept a diary of the various changes over four weeks from the arrival of the caterpillar eggs to the fascinating transformation from caterpillar to butterfly.  The butterflies were released into our beautiful grounds on the last day before half term. Many of the children were fortunate to be able to hold and observe the butterflies before they took flight.
