Safe Space is brilliant idea created by three of our Year 8 pupils. It is an anonymous reporting form that pupils can fill out to report unacceptable behaviour.
Sam Pollock, Head of Pastoral Care, explained: “We’ve been talking with pupils about the stigma around snitching and how you inherently don’t want to tell on friends. We also discussed how important it is to uphold a community and the responsibility we all have for making sure it is a lovely community to be a part of and a safe and happy community. It is from these discussions that three of our Year 8s created the idea of Safe Space.”
The idea behind Safe Space is that if you see behaviour that you think is unacceptable, that you have a way to tell someone even if you don’t feel you can talk to a member of staff directly.
Safe Space posters have popped up in all classrooms around school and the Safe Space form is found right at the top of our school intranet landing page.
Our pupils have lots of different ways of communicating if they are worried or concerned. They can talk to their tutor or form teacher, Rachel and the office staff, Miss Pledger (emotional, social and behavioural coach) , houseparents and to the Year 8 Friends (trained position). They can also ask for help using a special email address which is displayed around school. Safe Space creates another way for pupils to look out for each other and to keep our community kind and respectful.
