The sports hall has been given a huge lift and spruce up with a new surface, repainted walls and ceiling, and new lighting.
From Year 8 cricket coaching to Reception country dancing all our pupils and sports will benefit from this indoor space and we look forward to showing it to our parents, guest clubs and teams when visitors are allowed back. A huge thank you to all those who made it happen, especially our brilliant onsite maintenance team.
Saturday Activity - Cricket
It was great to see our headmaster, and former county cricketer, Mr Barker, coaching the Year 8 pupils with cricket coach Mr Geffen. Mr Barker said: "I was very proud of the children who were so engaged and ready to learn at the end of a long and very unusual term."
Mr Geffen added: "The sports hall is such a great facility for all sports, including cricket. The new lighting has made such a difference and it is a lovely space to be in."
The two-hour session was split into two sections. The first part looked at both batting and fielding. The coaches concentrated on the pull shot, how and when this is played and then they put it into a competitive game to practice. They also looked at running between the wickets. When it came to fielding, the coaches talked about catching technique, fielding skills including fielding under pressure to run someone out. In the second half of the session, pupils were in the nets and the coaches gave everyone match scenarios to think about and plan tactics.
Country Dancing and Pre-Prep PE
Our Pre-Prep pupils often head to the Sports Hall for PE, where they are met by our specialist sports teachers. Here they are learning English country dancing.
