Roman Day with Year 3

Year 3's Roman Day was exciting, entertaining and educational! The children all looked terrific in a wide variety of outfits inspired by their history studies this term.

In the morning, they took part in a fashion show, where they displayed all the latest trends in Roman dress. In Maths, the children learnt about Roman numerals and used them to solve mathematical problems. A wonderful Roman banquet followed, fit for emperors and princesses, citizens of Rome, soldiers and even some pesky Celts. Stuffed dormice and succulent peacock legs were on the menu as well as an enormous variety of bread, fruit, olives and honey flapjacks and all washed down with some Roman wine! What a feast!

After some Roman recreation and reading, various activities followed in the form of memory games, gladiator puppetry, quizzes and learning all about the Roman Gods. It was a fun filled day of learning and activity and was a fantastic way to draw this term’s Roman topic to a close.

Congratulations to all the Year 3 children on their entries to our Roman recruitment poster competition. The posters have been appreciated and enjoyed by visitors to the Sharman wing. Mr Donald (Head of History) and Mrs Jeram (Head of Art) have been deliberating and have ably chosen six winning posters which they felt fulfilled the criteria in an original and eye-catching way, whilst delivering a clear and important message to young Roman men of the time.

This year’s winning posters belonged to: Darcey, Ammie, Rocco, Jamie, William and Jay

Well done.
