Hosting cricket teams from South Africa
Our U13 cricket match against touring team Thomas More College from Durban, South Africa, was the perfect opportunity to repay some of the excellent hospitality Westbourne House School's Year 8s received when they were on tour in Kwa Zulu Natal in October.
Mr Smith said: “It was an honour to be able to play Thomas More at Westbourne House. Many thanks to our parents who hosted pupils from TM and to those that masterminded a superb lunch and looked after the visiting team so well.
“The cricket match was a great occasion with Westbourne House just coming out on top in a very exciting match. This reversed the result of our previous match at Thomas More College.
“Touring is all about the participation of all. In this game all the children played a part in a truly memorable match. The player of the match was awarded to Ben E for his all-round performance.
“Over the past 10 years we have played Thomas More as many times as we have played Highfield - it's wonderful to build these sporting friendships across the world," Mr Smith added.
We were delighted to host Cornwall Hill School from Pretoria this summer, another of the schools we visit each year in South Africa and with whom we have a longstanding relationship.
The match was equally as exciting, with some great play by both sides. Westbourne posted a healthy total in the first innings, with Cornwall Hill coming just 10 runs short in an exciting finish.
Westbourne House School was named as a top 50 cricketing Prep School by The Cricketer.
