Junior Sports Day
There is nothing like an inter-patrol competition to bring out the children’s competitive spirit and Junior Sports Day 2023 was no exception and was as hotly contested as ever! In glorious sunshine, the children took part in a mixture of track events for both Year 3 and 4, field events of javelin, long jump and high jump for Year 4, and the egg and spoon race and the dressing up race for Year 3. Every child took part in at least two events with the relay to finish, so everybody made important contributions for their patrol. Mr Summerhays had big shoes to fill on his first year on the microphone and he did a fantastic job with children and parents enjoying his energy and approach. He's definitely booked for next year already!
It all came down to the relays in the end which were worth double points, with Tigers coming away as winners on the day.
Well done to all our young athletes for the enormous amount of effort and enthusiasm they put into each race. We would also like to congratulate all the children who achieved a new personal best time.

Senior Sports Day
The senior sports day was a fantastic event, blessed with a sunny day and ideal conditions for throwing, jumping, and running. The atmosphere was electric, with lots of family members spectating and cheering on the students. Both the participants and the staff were filled with excitement and a healthy competitive spirit.
Congratulations to the participants and a big round of applause for all their impressive performances. A special mention to those who stepped in last minute, showing great sportsmanship and contributing to the success of the day.
There were a few standout moments that will be remembered. In the Year 5 category, Stanley C amazed everyone with his incredible javelin throw, setting a new record of 17.47 meters. Anya H also displayed remarkable strength and skill in the shot put, achieving a record-breaking distance of 4.85 meters. Rocco M, Year 6, showed exceptional agility and speed in the hurdles event, setting a new record of 13.72 seconds. His determination and skill were truly admirable. In Year 7, Felix T demonstrated immense power in the shot put, smashing the previous record with a throw of 8.21 meters. These achievements are a testament to the students' dedication, effort, and resilience. Their hard work paid off and they should be proud of their accomplishments.
And the best team won … our pupils, our teachers and staff, our parents, our friends and families … our Westbourne community. What an incredible sports day! A huge thank you to you all – Team Westbourne – for making it such a special occasion.
PS Well done TIGERS - the winning patrol!
