James Stewart, Head of Pastoral Care in the Junior Department, organised a further introduction session to chess for Years 3 and 4.
We welcomed 24 members of our Junior Department to an afternoon of chess on Wednesday.
Most of the children were new to chess or relative beginners so we went through some of the basics, learning how to set up a table, how the pieces move, how to protect your king and some strategies for success.
It was a fun afternoon, everyone played three matches and I hope that many of them will join our chess club in future months.
Mr Stewart explains in this blog post about the growing enthusiasm for chess at Westbourne House, and gives his top tips for beginners.
