Alicia Drummond a qualified counsellor and parent coach from ‘Teen Tips’ came in to carry out a workshop with our Year 8 children. The aim was to look at teenage risk taking and outcome assessment. It also gave them strategies to keep themselves safe when faced with all the new choices and pressures that they will encounter moving on to their next schools.
Alicia then followed up with a parent presentation entitled ‘Teen Tips, Screens and Anxiety’.
The world has changed so much since I was a teenager that it was really useful to hear Alicia’s views and thoughts about how to approach screen time. I am familiar with her book and have found it a really helpful guide to think about how to engage and talk to my children as we come across some of the more challenging aspects of growing up.
It was great to hear that she had also spent time with pupils too as I am sure hearing her speak and engage with them will have given them some food for thought. Often hearing these type of messages from a source other than their parents or even teachers has a positive effect as it is not seen as lecturing from Mum & Dad.
