U13 Girls' Hockey tour to Holland is a real hit!

A selection of the year 8 girls travelled to the Netherlands in the Easter holidays on the hockey tour.

After many hours of travelling the girls played their first match against HC Noordwijk. It was a close game and the teams were well matched. The final result was 4-2 to HC Noordwijk. The girls enjoyed sharing pancakes with the opposition after the match before making their way back to the hostel for some much needed sleep after such a long day!

The following day the girls ventured into Amsterdam. The first place they visited was the Amsterdam dungeons, which the girls thoroughly enjoyed. After this they made their way to the Pancake Bakery, where they had pancakes with all sorts of toppings available. The last excursion of the day was a relaxing ride on a canal boat cruise. They then travelled to their second match against HC Athena. The girls had a promising start to the match and the score was 3-3 at half time. However HC Athena upped their game in the second half and the final score was 6-3 to HC Athena. The team stayed for a terrific match tea and then participated in a friendly game of football with their opposition afterwards.

The third day began with a dune scooter safari from the hostel towards Noordwijk beach. After a quick break in the café and some scenic photo snapping opportunities they then returned to the hostel. Next they visited Corpus-a journey through the human body. This reinforced the knowledge that a lot of the girls had learnt in biology. The third hockey was against HC Catwijck. Although the score ended 3-0 to HC Catwijck, the match was far closer than the score suggests.

On the final full day of the tour the girls travelled back into Amsterdam for a bit of retail therapy. After a couple of hours of shopping the girls went to Powerzone to play laser tag. The group was split into 2- the red team and the blue team. This definitely brought out the competitiveness in all girls (and even the staff). Mr Whitehouse was the most lethal player of the afternoon.

The final match was against HC Alliance. It was a rather hot afternoon but the girls played well. The final score was 4-1 to HC Alliance. After such a successful week with excellent behavior and effort, the girls were treated to a meal out at a local restaurant.

On the way back to Calais ferry port the girl stopped off to play glow golf. Mr Whitehouse again came out as the winner. After a fairly quiet bus and ferry ride the girls all returned safely back to school.

A good time was had by all and many happy memories were made.
