All our pupils from Reception to Year 8 are very lucky to be able to travel to the coast to study, as well as have fun, because it is only 25 mins from our doorstep!
Year 7 went to West Wittering beach, one of our favourites, to study the formation and management of East Head Spit. And last term, in the Summer term of Year 6, they visited The Seven Sisters in East Sussex (only an hour away) and learnt about cliff erosion and sediment transportation - longshore drift (which they illustrated by throwing tennis balls on the beach).
Head of Geography, Mr James, said: "At West Wittering they learnt about how longshore drift can produce spits - such as East Head. In addition they learnt how the hinge and the sand dunes at East Head are protected from erosion by the seas, wind and humans, with use of: groynes, gabions, replenishment, planting, signage, fencing and boardwalks.
"The children, many of whom have spent many hours at West Wittering with their families, now view the area with a much greater understanding of the formation and management of the spit at East Head."
