Y6 Perform a Midsummer Night's Dream

Shakespeare4kids visited Westbourne House to do a play in a day with Year 6: A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

They focused on the following scenes:

  • Duke Theseus’s and Hippolyta’s armies and how they fought each other which eventually brought them together.
  • The fairies in the forest: Titania, Oberon and Puck.
  • The play within a play – the workman.

At the start of the afternoon session, everyone in Year 6 did a full run through.  Then they performed all of the scenes to the audience, the Year 7s.

The act of performing of the play certainly aided the pupils understanding of A Midsummer Night’s Dream - after all, Shakespeare wrote his plays to be performed and not read behind a desk in a classroom!

In the Year 6 English lessons we will be continuing to study A Midsummer Night’s Dream, focusing on the lovers and the power of the love potion.
