Year 3 enjoyed a terrific visit from Marcus Julius Britanicus from Leg II. He came to tell the children all about his life as a Legionary soldier in the Roman Army. This was a much anticipated day and the children were all very excited.
Marcus began by explaining how the Roman Army was so successful in conquering so many countries. He talked all about his uniform, armour and equipment as well as his weapons and his battle strategy.
He brought so many interesting artefacts for the children to look at, there really was so much to learn; everyone was transfixed. Needless to say, the children were put through their paces with marching practice on the playground, following instructions in Latin and keeping in time so they marched in unison. It was not as easy as they thought but they all worked very hard and fortunately there were no harsh punishments given out by their centurion leader.
What a memorable day. The children have gone on to complete some excellent work in topic, English and Art following the visit.
