The ‘Buddies’ program was introduced last year to provide Year 6 with another opportunity to take on a position of responsibility whilst ensuring a happy and harmonious morning break experience for all children. ‘Buddies’ are on hand to help pupils who have fallen over, instigate suitable age appropriate games, encourage shy children to join in or simply keep them company, informing staff when there are problems and setting a good example by caring for others.
All of Year 6 have been given at least three opportunities to be a ‘Buddy’ this term and I have been so impressed with how they have risen to the challenge. Whilst responsible for policing morning break I have on a number of occasions found enthusiastic pupils donning their yellow saches at lunch break too. In the Easter Term the team will be whittled down to a more select group and I must say it is going to make for some rather tough selections.
