We were awestruck by Year 6's phenomenal production of The Lion King. As the audience clapped along to the final song of the show - I Just Can’t Wait to Be King - sense of wonder and disbelief.... how did this bunch of brilliant 10 and 11 year olds create such a special show?
From the scary and silly laughing hyenas to the respected pride of lions, from the comic Timon and Pumbaa to Rafiki and Zazu and the full spectrum of African animals, the cast truly took you with them to the Pride Lands of Africa and beyond, for this Disney classic we know and love.
They had us laughing and crying and tapping our feet as they raised the roof on the Millennium Hall.
The Lion King costumes and matching makeup were truly fabulous. Thank you Mrs Baxendale who put together 54 incredible costumes and to her team of parents whose makeup skills worked their magic to add those final transformational touches.
There's nothing like live music to bring a musical to life, creating excitement, tension and atmosphere. The audience was dancing in their seats to the wonderful tunes we know and love from The Lion King.
Working alongside our professional musicians - Gerry Berkley of West End percussion fame, flautist Julie Twite, horn player Matt Hall, bass player Dave Soothill and clarinettist Emily Maindonald – Mr Allum enlisted the help of three Year 7 musicians on flute and percussion!
“They were amazing! With only one full rehearsal with the rest of the band under their belts before the performance, they did a brilliant job. Whilst they are all used to playing in our orchestra, performing as part of a live band for a show is a very different skill. I was very proud of them. Hopefully it will be a memory to treasure!”
