Our children at Westbourne House School have been inspired this week to read more and write fabulous stories thanks to visits from authors Lauren St John and Ele Fountain.
It was a great honour to be part of the Chichester Children’s BookFest.
Our year 3 and 4 pupils met Lauren St John and learnt about how she researches her books, her work saving leopards and dolphins with the Born Free Foundation and her childhood in Africa. She talked about two of her new books: Kat Wolfe Investigates and Kat Wolfe Takes the Case and why she set up Authors4Oceans. "Writing a book can sometimes happen very quickly or take months,'' she said. Lauren St John encouraged the children to do what they can to save the planet "whatever you do big or small" will make a difference and she urged the children to remind their parents not to buy plastic bags and bottles of water, reducing our use of single use plastic.
Our pupils in years 5 - 8 boys met Ele Fountain. The session focused on her book, Boy 87. She talked about how her time in Ethiopia inspired her to write the book and the children were fascinated by how she became an author and how long it took for the book to be published. One year 7 boy said that Ele had inspired him to write – we hope Chichester Children’s BookFest has inspired all the children lucky enough to be involved.
