Skill swap sessions at Westbourne House School
Our recent rugby and netball skill swap taught our children a valuable lesson: don’t limit yourself by only doing what you are good at.
Mrs Cook took the Year 7 and 8 boys for netball sessions, while Mr Smith took the girls for rugby. Each child then had the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and develop a wider range of skills.
“At Westbourne House School, we pride ourselves on the broadness of our PE programme,” said Mr Hanley, Head of Boys’ Sport.
“Each sport involves unique movements and strategies and by learning in a variety of sports, pupils can enhance their physical capabilities, self-confidence and further develop a positive mindset.”

Mrs Cook also shared her thoughts on the importance of this exercise:
“As a woman who has played rugby in the past, it is important to me that the girls get to play rugby and that they experience a broad spectrum of opportunities in the PE programme,” said Mrs Cook.
“As a passionate netball player, it is also lovely to take the Year 7 & 8 boys for netball at this time of year, especially as they have been so positive and open-minded,” she continued.
“We can’t wait to play a netball game against the girls,” said one Year 7 boy.
“Bring it on!” say the girls.
