Canoeing the River Wye with Year 6

The pictures say it all - what a brilliant trip! Our Year 6 pupils returned exhausted from their three-day residential canoeing adventure in the Wye Valley, after the 'best' fun.

Trip leader, Mr Forsyth, said: "The canoeing was fantastic and the children were quite the experts after three days on the water. They travelled on day one from Kerne Bridge to Welsh Bicknor, on day two from Welsh Bicknor to the campsite on the banks of the River Wye. On the final day, they paddled from the campsite to Monmouth - quite an achievement for our intrepid Year 6 pupils.

"The trip highlight was probably the feeling of triumph having taken on the Symonds Yat rapids. Several of the children were nervous but they were all proud and excited to have navigated the white water and not capsized! Mind you, it’s not like they didn’t love the water … on the second day nearly everyone decided to swim!

"The evenings were happy and cosy in the bell tents. The first night the children had free time exploring and had a great game of volley ball. The second night, while it poured with rain, the children put on a talent contest. The trio - Benji, Alex and Dom - were the overall winners with their hilarious accents and impressions – eat your heart out Rory Bremner!

"The River Wye was stunning and we enjoyed spotting ducklings and goslings along the riverbank, all the while keeping our eyes peeled for otters! It was an incredible trip and we are very proud of the children who were great company and behaved impeccably."
