In exciting chess news...
Our young chess teams competed fiercely in the first round of the Butler Cup (U13) and Primary Cup (U11). Close matches and nail-biting finishes made for exciting tournaments. Well done to all who participated.
"We had a great afternoon; we enjoyed meeting lots of people from other schools and played a really good level of chess."
Jamie, Year 8
Windlesham
After whizzing to Windlesham, the U11A team (Isaac B, Darcey G, Jack J and Matthew K) played Ardingly, Windlesham, Lancing and Cottesmore. The U13B team (Bertie D & Angus M) faced Dorset House, Lancing and Windlesham.
Congratulations to Isaac B who won all of his matches and helped his U11A team to second place overall.
Westbourne House School
We hosted the U13As and U11Bs at Westbourne House the following day. The U13a team (Andrew X, Charlie W, Jamie R and captain Lucas M), played Lancing College (U14), Windlesham and Brighton College. In some very tight matches, Brighton just pipped Westbourne to first place.
The U11B team had a straight match against Oakwood U11A team. Tymek A captained a team with Harry B, Xander A and Freddie A. Each of the four players played each of the Oakwood players. Oakwood led with one round to go and the scores were tied with the final (sixteenth) match in play. However, in the final match Xander A pulled off a win to give Westbourne a 8.5 to 7.5 victory.
The match list is awarded to Xander A for his key victory and Isaac B for winning all three of his matches.
