43 pupils, across three age groups, were excited to head up to the K2 in Crawley for the Sussex County Athletics Championships.
A massive credit to our pupils, we actually had many more than 43 pupils who had reached the qualifying standards in order to compete. However, due to competition rules, we could only take one athlete per event and any one athlete is only allowed to take part in two events and a relay. As a result, some pupils who had qualified for multiple events had some decisions to make beforehand!
As this Championship involves a lot of the IAPS schools in Sussex and has minimum standards, there is a very high standard and it is a tough competition in itself. On top, the athletes have the added pressure of knowing that this is their opportunity to get to nationals!
There were an incredible 41 new personal bests (PBs) and five new school records (SR). Theo, Lulu and Ollie broke records previously set this year due to their disciplines changing distance or weight. Tegan and Chloe broke long-standing records for their track events. Chloe is also County Champion! Nine athletes qualified for the nationals and some in multiple events. We also had eight 3rd places, when it was top two to qualify for nationals. A very successful day!

Special Mentions:
- Amber Davis came 2nd in the Triple Jump and 3rd in 300m but unfortunately there are no Nationals for either of those events at her age group

- Juliette missed out on being County Champion for shot by 1cm
Well done to all involved!
